The course covers a popular topic which is often discussed but widely misunderstood. The teacher covers the prophetic narrations which pertain to the Jinn, and covers further details on the various Types of Jinn, and their effect on humans as well as their role in the world. Evidence and knowledge from the Quran and Sunnah is provided to present a clear Islamic understanding on these creatures and their effects. Jinn جن jinn (singular جني jinnī) are supernatural creatures in Arab folklore and Islamic teachings which occupy a parallel world to that of mankind. Together, jinn, humans and angels make up the three sentient creations of Allah. Jinn is derived from the Arabic root j-n-n meaning ‘to hide’ or ‘be hidden’. Other words derived from this root are majnūn ‘mad’ (literally, ‘one whose intellect is hidden’), junūn ‘madness’, and janīn ‘embryo, fetus’ (‘hidden inside the womb’). Types of jinn include the shayṭān, the ghūl, the marīd, the ‘ifrīt, and the jinn. The various categories are discussed in this seminar.
